CLC volunteers at event.
Participants made a heart-felt "bid" on the art of their choice by telling the art attendant how much they planned to donate to the CLC. The donated pre-owned art was then "hot carded" with their name on it to show the CLCs intent to give that particular piece of art as a thank you to that donor unless someone else loved it so much they would steal it away by donating more. The CLC received great donations, donors received great thank you's that they could hang up or give away for inexpensive but unique Christmas presents and the original donors of the pre-owned art cleaned out their houses of items they no longer needed. It was a win all the way around.
Those who donated at least $20 outright at the beginning of the night, also got a chance to select a separate "thank you" piece. Everyone seemed to enjoy this affordable night out and suggested we do this again so look for it next year and keep us in mind when you have a great piece you want to get rid of but don't know where.
Needed: Please let us know if you or someone you know has a small warehouse space they can donate to the CLC to use in getting ready for fundraisers such as the Heart for Justice event, or for housing donations of office furniture and legal books while we are going through them and figuring out which location they can go to (or whether we should bless them to another charity). Sometimes we have not been able to take advantage of a donation because we cannot move it fast enough and don't have a place to store it. We also have items that are helpful to use for clinics and special events that are difficult to keep in our small office. See the "Donate Now" page for other needs we may have or complete the "Contact Us" page to let us know you are interested in helping and we can tell you what we are most in need of at the moment. Thank you for your support!

Helping Professionals Ministry: Nov 21st we held the first HPM event in partnership with St. Paul's Church, our downtown host site, and have done it monthly since on each third Wednesday. It is time for helping professionals and other persons who work hard to support our community to gather for a blessing and encouraging message. Initially we gathered in the sanctuary, but we have now started using the beautiful chapel for this special peaceful time away from our hectic lives.
The blessing runs 12:15-12:45 to accommodate people who have a strict lunch, but we will offer time for coffee and conversation afterward for those who are so inclined. Last time we offered opportunity for those that stayed afterward to share what wisdom came to them during their time of reflection. Quiet Chapel time is also offered after the blessing (and can be arranged daily) as well as one on one time with the available ministers for those that feel they would like more time to pray or be encouraged. If you would like more information about this, would like a flyer to share, or would like to sign up to be a minister or spiritual worker on duty for this event or others in the future as part of the Helping Professionals Ministry, please email our Executive Director, Katina Werner Esq., email@example.com, or the Pastor of St. Paul's at firstname.lastname@example.org.
"Helping professionals" means anyone who believes that they use their profession for the betterment of the community. For example: legal and medical professionals; teachers; pastors and spiritual workers; police, fire and rescue workers; government agency personnel; social workers, caseworkers and advocates; you name it-- if you feel called to serve and do serve your community with your gifts, then we want to thank you, bless you, and be of support to you. Regardless of your faith or beliefs, you are welcome to join us for a blessing and encouraging message. Note: Currently, this blessing and fellowship is every third Wednesday, but we are exploring moving it to Fridays after Easter.
*CLC welcomes clients & staff/volunteers of all faiths and belief systems.
St. Pauls is located at 428 N. Erie, at the corner of Jackson Street, across from the Government Center and the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas. While this host site is a Lutheran Church, the message will not be focused on denomination and may include other ministers in the delivery of the blessing.
